Message is: Looking for all former HARD CHARGERS of the 30th Field Artillery Regiment, specifically, all who served in the 1st Bn, 30th Artillery, from 1965-1971. The 1st Bn,30th Artillery became the first US Army "Airmobile" 155mm Battalion in Vietnam. This feat was accomplished on 4 February 1966 in support of the 1st Air Cavalry Division during Operation MASHER/WHITE WING in the Bong Son region of the Central Highlands. The 1st Bn, 30th Artillery remained "Airmobile" with the 1st Air Cavalry Division until April 1971. Additionally,the 1st Bn, 30th Artillery was the first US Army 155mm (Towed)Howitzer Battalion into Vietnam and the first US Army 155mm (Towed)Howitzer Battalion to engage the communists forces. And the 1st Bn, 30th Artillery remained in Vietnam longer than any other US Army 155mm Howitzer Battalion, Towed or Self-Propelled. From November of 1965 until April of 1971, the 1st Bn, 30th Artillery shot 1,260,000 rounds during its 5 years and 4 months in Vietnam.

Message is: i'm looking for informatio about a letter writing campaign that was started by an officer(I think) in the army in 1967 or 1968. this officer was in the 101st and was from San Mateo CA, he may have been hispanic . i understand that he worked on this campain with his sister. There was a parade held for the soldiers in San Mateo. At first officers weren't supposec to go but before the parade a helicopter( i think) crashed and killed some of 5 officers and so the remaining officers were allowed to go to San Mateo for the parade. The parade was probably held between 1970 and '72. The soldiers gave mementoes to the people that they had corresponded with such as their nametags, shirts, etc. if any one has any information on this please contactme asap as i am working on a deadline for my paper. any information will be appreciated thakn you, Becky.
