My uncle, Robert Dale Money, was a young private assigned tot he division stationed as Schofield Barracks on December 7, 1941. I don't know to which unit he was assigned. i do know that he fought through the South Pacific and reenlisted after the war and was reassigned to Germany as an MP. He was severely injured there and discharged. He rarely, if ever, discussed his wartime experiences but he suffered from malaria and other ailments until his death in 1990. He was killed on 12/15/68 in the Tay Ninh area of South Vietnam by shrapnel and small arms fire to the upper body and head while on point. We do know that he was caucasian, 20-22 years old, and from somewhere in southern California. Any help, or anyone remembering the events above, we would appreciate a reply. Message is: I was a member of C-228 ASHB, 1 Cav Div,attached to the 7th Cav Task Force. The 7th Cav won the Presidential Unit citation for action at Phan Thiet. We were engaged in several ground attacks while there. Everyone was awarded the CIB for combat actions. However, when they took the names of people involved in the actions, I was on another mission and never received my CIB. I need collaborating information to prove that I was eligible for the award. I do want to leave my awards to my son when I do pass on. So if there's anyone out there that remembers more than I do please drop me a line. I was a crewman of one of the three CH-47 that was attached to the 7th Cav, my crewchief was PFC Rounds, Door Gunner Sp4 Freze, Pilot CWO Green. We were parked next to the POL dump and near the Arvn camp. It was a small airstrip, with the sea on one side and grave yard on the other side. So,if any of you Gary Owens trooper or other cavalrymen out there that remembers the actions were involved in, and can help me out I'll greatly apprreciate it. Can't believe its been 33 years. Seems like yesterday.
