Message is: I met Marvin Sliger and his wife Marty in 1974 or 1975 in Pekin Il.. Marvin and I worked together at Caterpillar Tractor Co. until he re-uped in approx. 1978. Message is: I was in county just a few months I was asigned to 1/14 arty on LZ yough west of chu lay it was just after the tet offensive we had 4 of the old 105 mm howitzers on the hill i was on gun #1 and Kelly was the gun leader on gun #2 my section chef was named buck and we learn fast the Buck and Kelly were the most knowledgable guys on the hill we had been though arty direct fire duels with north viet namise recoales rifles and made it and more . anyway I only knew him as Kelly . gun 1 and gun2 were on the south side of the hill and guns 3 and 4 were on the east side of the hill we started taking morter incoming from the east side of the hill a section leaders on guns 3 and 4 were not very expertianced and they were the only guns that could direct fire on the morter position so Kelly ran over the top of the hill and took over one of the guns the morted must have been dug in pretty good because once Kelly got the gun zeroed in he start loading the gun and firing very fast every time he stopped the morter would start firing at us again . so we got a experiance asst gunner to fire and Kelly started what we called auto fire when the 105 recoaled we got so good we could have the breech open and a round in the chamber before the barrel went forward so the asst gunner just held the lanyoud pulled and the gun would fire as soon as it went foward . so this went on for quite a while and then the gun exploded the barrel had gotten so hot that the round exploded in the barrel kelly was standing right behind the bratch block when it blow off it hit him in the head some of his head was gone but the medics said he was still alive . thats the last we ever heard or saw of KELLEY . I know its not much to go on . but Isure would like to know if he made it

Message is: This individual claims to be part of the 2nd of the 502 (Air Apache) attached to the 101st Airborne--he says he was a LRRP and claims to have been awarded the SILVER STAR; I for one find this hard to believe; the part about 5 tours not- withstanding also how does a (supposed AIRBORNE RANGER) loose his maroon beret and pick up a black one with the 5th Special Forces device and not claim part of that organization? Please indicate whether this name can be found in your roster as he has listed this history to me in an attempt to procure a loan. Thank you for your time and effort.
