Message is: I am looking for fellow sky soldier that I served with in Vietnam who was a very good friend. We lost contact after ETS. His home state might have been OH or IL. Anyone with information about him or how I could track him down please E-mail me. Also, would like to find out who the men were that I was on patrol with when we stepped on a booby trap in the VC valley near Qui Nhon between LZ English and Phu Cat AFB in early '71. We were all severely injured. I arranged for all three of them to be airlifted out of the jungle and then I waited for hours for the rest of the platoon to arrive. I was airlifted out the next day. Never knew if anyone of the three survived or not. Can't remember any of their names but all were members of my unit, one was a medic. (173rd ABE 2/503 Co. C) I received Bronze Star for action but would like to know the fate of my fellow soldiers. Can anyone help me with info. on how to get official records that might help?

Message is: All 8th Engineer 1st Cavalry Division Airmoble register here, I now have names and addresses of near 1000 8th Engineer Veterans from 1964=1972. This list does include members of the 501st Engineer Company 3D Brigade separate 1st Cavalry Division Airmobile. For those of you that never heard of the 501st Engineer Company, Co "C" 8th Engineer Battalion remained in Vietnam when the rest of the 8th Engineer Battalion returned to the United States April 1971. In August 1971 Co "C" was redesignated 501st Engineer Company and was attached to the 3D Brigade which stayed in Vietnam while the remainder of the Division went to their new home Fort Hood, Texas where they remain today. You may be looking for a friend or a friend may be looking for you. This list includes Privates to Lieutenant General. You may be surprised that your Lt or Cpt made General. This is probably the largest list for 8th Engineer Veterans of Vietnam and is growing. Some of our comrades have deceased after coming home but we will always remember them.

Message is: In July of 1968 I went through Basic Training at Fort Knox Kentucky with the 101st Airborne. They told us Cambell was full and they were running an extra Company through Fort Knox. I went through Basic with 1st Platoon, A-10-5, or 1st Platoon Company A 10th Battalion, 5th Training Brigade. Fort Knox didn't know we were there and we were supported out of Campbell. The Platoon Sergeant was Ssgt. Jenning and the Drill Corporal was Heyborne. I was the Platoon Guide, Danny L. Crafton. I have the Platoon Picture of the Platoon at Fort Knox. I was sent home with my Guard Troop to wait in reserve for 1st Platoon. I was also 1st Platoon's designated Rearguard, I didn't ask for or want the job but in those days you did what you were told to do. The Platoon went onto Campbell under the Command of 2nd Lt. Dan R. Crafton, a distant Cousin and Sgt. Jennings said that you couldn't tell us apart by looking at us. THIS HAS CAUSED ALOT OF PROBLEMS. After graduation we were redesignated 1st Platoon Bravo, 101st Airborne Air Assault, 1st Infantry Division. I do not know what their unit designation was in Vietnam, I do know it was 1st Platoon Bravo, 101st Airborne Air Assault, 1st Infantry Divison. I suspect they were attatched to the 501st Aer-o-rifels. 1st Platoon Bravo was engaged with the enemy at Hamburger Hill on 5-10-69 thru 5-17-69. I have no record or correspondence from them after 5-17-69, the battle for Hamburger Hill lasted until 5-20-69. I am trying to contact Spouses or Siblings from 1st Platoon for a possible reunion. I ETS'd 01/70 and Mike went to RVN, and from there I lost touch with him. At a Special Operations Ass'n reunion I identified Mike in a picture of a Recon Team operating out of CCS in Ban Me Thuot in '70 or '71. He was a member of the Special Forces Ass'n in 1985 while working in El Salvador. I doubt if he's still in the service, but who knows? His home was in Oklahoma and may reside there somewhere. Message is: I have been searching for Sgt. Cliff Spallone. Thirty years ago, my fourth grade students (Two Rivers, WI) sent letters, cards, and CARE packages to soldiers in Viet Nam. I came across an album containing a picture of Sgt. Spallone and his buddies as well as the last letter he wrote to my students. It was dated: 14 March 1968 - 8:20 P.M. He had 17 days left to serve in Viet Nam. Other men in Sgt. Spallone's section are named and pictured in a photo he sent: John Sullivan, Billy Neal, Billy Davis, Dennis Phillips, Jim Ford, and Larry Cravey. I was able to determine that Sgt. Spallone enlisted in PA, but I believe he is originally from New York. Also, his name did not come up as one of the names on The Memorial Wall, so I am assuming that he may still be living. If not, I would like to access information that would permit me to get in touch with any siblings or other family members. It is important that I know what happened to Sgt. Spallone and his comrades - they played a vital role in preserving our freedom. I would like to have my seventh and eighth grade students continue the gesture of gratitude by writing to him and/or the other men who were in his section to let them know that they live on in many hearts and their sacrifice was not in vain. Message is: My former PA and myself were talking about leaders who had the most significant impact on our careers, and discovered we had both served under James E. Tribble proudly. We know seek to find him to thank him for the quality soldier standards he instilled in us. He would be as proud of our accomplishments as we were and still are in awe of his. He was the epitomy of what a soldier/leader should be. While talking it was discovered that the same, then platoon sergeant who pulled Brey out of danger in Grenada, was my 1SG in Germany that I Morton, held in such high regards. We both went though the enlisted ranks to become officers, becuase of his values that he instilled in us, and many more soldiers. I left the 11B/M world to become an officer who is airborne, ranger,CIB, and EIB qualified. This is not the norm in the mechanized world, but happened because of the standards Tribble gave me, as an E-1, in the army. We seek to thank him for being "Hard but Fair", for we may not be what we are today if not for him. Again he would be equally as proud of us as we are of him. Hat's off to the real Vets like him, who served in a harder army than it is today.

Message is: I was in the US Air Force and volunteered and flew as a "door gunner" for the 75th and 283d US Army Med Evac Units, during the periods mentioned. In April 1966, WO1 Soper had received his AC (pilot) orders, and on that day we crashed going into save a young soldier who had been hit by a claymore. The VA refuses to accept that I as a US Air Force Staff Sergeant volunteer door gunner, even though I had a senior US Army to attest to the same. They indicate that I should have received Awards, Decorations and Badges. I've tried to explain, only certain US Army soldiers with specific MOS's are eligible for such, i.e. CIB, gunner wings, etc. I did not volunteer for awards, etc. I did it with honor to save the lives of my fellow armed forces members needing such help. The VA also has asked me what was so stressful about being a door gunner. Any gunner, please respond to them and cite my case number C 25 123 756. I also flew with an Army Major in War Zone D out of a US Special Forces "C" Camp between Can Tho and Bien Thuy Air Base. I believe he was the intel officer, since we interfaced with "A" teams in the field, gathered information and threw out "Chieu Hoi" leaflets to let them know their area would be a "free fire zone in the future. Any US Army Special Forces Major who remembers a young 23 year old US Air Force Staff Sergeant who flew with you as an extra gun for backup in case you crashed, please write me.

Message is: I corresponded with Ernest Samuels from 1967 through 1970 -- I was in grade school at the time. Each child in my class was given the name of a soldier to send a Christmas card to; I continued to write to him, and he to me, for 3 years. He was from Plainfield, NJ, I think. I don't know his rank, unit or serial no., unfortunately. He once wrote that he flew helicopter missions but told me that he couldn't say more than that. I have always wondered what happened to him -- we never met but spoke once by phone after he got out in '70. He said he was going to move to Florida and get married. He was an important part of my childhood -- I learned a lot from corresponding w/ him and would love to connect with him again now. I assume he is in his 40s.
