Message is: As a teenager in high school during the early 70's we wore bracelets with the name of a POW or MIA soldier and received a blue circle with a star to put on the bracelet if the person was found or released. We were never told what branch of the service they were in or any other information. I am just guessing he was Army. I still have the bracelet with the name Lt. Col. Art W. Elliott and a date of 4/26/70 (date missing or captured). It also has the star sticker. Over the years I have often wished I could contact Mr. Elliott. I am also writing letters to different goverment officials and want as much information as I can gather on him. I would appreciate anything on Sgt. Smoot. I know this much, on March 10,1971 he was flying in an OH6A(serial #67-17412) on a visual reconn mission over Kracheh Province, Cambodia. The helicopter was hit and crashed. The body of SP4 Robert Kiser was recovered. WO1 Craig J. Houser evaded captured and walked to a friendly position. No sign was ever found of Sgt. Curtis Smoot. As of 1973, his status is: Missing in Action.

Message is: Peter A Groom was a Sgt. serving in the 71st Infantry Detachment assigned to the 199th Light Infantry Brigade. He was a team leader when I arrived in country and although I outranked him as a Staff Sergeant, he was my team leader for awhile, while I was getting my my "feet wet". Who ranked who was never an issue with us LRRPs in the field, just who was the best man for the job.I was happy for that arrangement. Later, after RECONDO training, and I was assigned my own team, there never was any difficulty between me and him over rank or assignments or anything. I truly appreciated his experience and willingness to share it with a "Shake and Bake" snot nosed kid from Ft Benning. I lost track of Peter and would like to find him.
