Message is: = Welcome home people! I'm doing research for a book being written about the exploits of the Brownwater Navy in Nam. I've undertaken a gigantic task and hope that you, here, can help me. I know that I'm assuming alot, since CRS Syndrome (that's Can't Remember Shit) is almost epidemic after 30 years. It's off the coast of the Batangan Peninsula, near Quang Ngai City, Dec. 6th, 1967. The 2nd in command of a Navy Swift Boat, an E-6 Boatswain's Mate is mortally wounded in the head. A Medevac or Dustoff is called, but can't load the wounded off the Swift, because the Swift's whip antennae are in the way. The Swift transfers the wounded to a Destroyer size ship and the Medevac or Dustoff loads the wounded off the ship's helo-deck. The wounded dies in flight or just after arrival at the hospital. The author was a crewmate of the wounded and is the person who called for the Medevac or Dustoff. He is hoping for the near impossible, that of locating the crew of that Medevac or Dustoff mission. He'd very much like to fill in the blanks of that event, since in his case, CRS is working overtime. Any help in this effort will have our heart felt appreciation.

Message is: My Dad is 80, and may not be with us much longer. It's been his wish for a long time to get in contact with his good friend from his days in the service, but cannot figure out how. He remembers "Stoneroad", or "Chief", as they nicknamed him, was an American Indian, was from Oklahoma, and often talked about being an actual chief from his tribe, or from a line of chiefs. Dad cannot remember what tribe he was from. He is unsure, but thinks, that the town or area he was from was called Pawne or Pawnee, OK - but then again, I think I've heard of a tribe called that, also, so maybe he was from the Pawnee Nation. I have had no luck doing general online searches finding him - Dad thinks Stoneroad's full name was "Henry Stoneroad". Message is: Captian Rankin was the pilot of LTG S.T. William's L-23 in which I was riding in the co-pilot's seat on a mission from TSN to Hue. During this flight we observed an emergency flare in the vicinity of Kontum. In a flyover of the airstrip we noted American civilians (later determined to be employees of Capitol Engineers), one of which appeared to be wounded. The decision was made to land and pick-up the civilians and continue on to Hue. However, on landing our landing gear malfunctioned and we crashed sliding into the jungle at the end of the airstrip. Fortunately, there was a VNAF C-47 on a "Milk-Run", so we launched a flare requesting a pick-up. Luckily the VNAF C-47 pilot was able to land without damaging his plane with the debris of the L-23. The pick-up was hasty and we were able to get the wounded on board for immediate lift-off. We all needed to get back to the hospital in Saigon, but the VNAF pilot had other plans, touch-down and Siesta at an airstrip in Bu^on Ma Thuo^t. When we observed that the pilot was sitting plane's wing enjoying his can of rice, he had to be physically persuaded to return to the cockpit for the return to TSN.
