Message is: Lokking for anyone who knew William "Roger the Dodger" Bonnell. Army is DENYING he was in Veit Nam. Need help verifying he was there. Born In Quincey, Calif. October 19, 1945. Raised in Hinton, Oklahoma area. Place of entry Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Was in Basic Training at Ft Polk, La.in October 1965. Was known as the "old man" of his unit...Co D 3D BN 1st Tng. Was sent to Ft Sill, Oklahoma..Btry B 3D Tab 25th Arty. He would not talk of his experiences in Viet Nam much, but I do know these stories. If you were there or know anything about Roger, pleas contact me. He was in Viet Nam only a very short time...possibly only 4 - 6 weeks. He was a helicopter gunner. He spent time with a group of men "up in the "mountains" and there were only a couple of choppers in that group that took men in and out of the LZ's. He told of one mission where his chopper was blown up; he was blown out and into a rice patthy. He said a "very large black dude picked me up, threw ! me over his shoulder, and high stepped it out of that patty." Roger was the only survivor of that mission. He told of the times they would come back from picking men up and having to hose down the inside of the chopper. He told of holding one guys head to keep his brain from coming out but he died anyway. He also spoke of the mission that brought him home. They were in a hot LZ, and were trying to take off. As they rose, the bottom of the choper was sprayed with gunfire. Roger was hit in the arm, legs and across the buttocks. He was taken to a tent hospital in Danang (I think). He said he remembers coming to and had two nurses looking at his ass and they made the comment "first time Ive ever seen a man menstruate." He was sent back to the hospital at Ft Sill where he spent a couple months. He spoke of a nurse he called "Thumper". He always said the only thing the Armny ever did for him was give him a new ass-hole. He then received orders to go to Germany while he was! still on crutches. He said he was assigned to a hospital in Weisbaden and it was a woman who was head of the hospital. He was assigned to Hq Trp 3d Sqdn 7th Cav. He was a Supply Sergeant there and told stories of being the "bank" and making loans and getting into a fight with a Lieutenant that got him in a lot of trouble. He was discharged in June, 1967. He lost all his Army stuff in a fire. The Army has said he was never in Viet Nam. But when I met him in 1970, I learned quickly not to do things. Don't walk up behind him and spook him. Don't wake him up from a dead sleep unless you keep your distance. Many the night I sat up with him in a cold sweat after he had nightmares of "fighting the war". We have a good friend who was in Viet Nam. He came up with a couple ideas as to why there "is no record of Roger being there." One, the Army was not the best at keeping records, especially if he was there only a short time. Or, he was "somewhere we weren't supposed to be! ". Even when they discussed Viet Nam, Roger was always ambiguous as to where he was exactly. He also told us the CIA had tried to recrut him as he had no real immediate family. We were married for 27 years when he passed away on November 11, 1998 from a brain tumor. He left behind two beautiful daughters who loved their Dad but suffered the effects from his PTSD. And a grandson he never got to meet. And they need to know of his legacy. I appreciate any and all responses. Thanking you in advance, Susan Bonnell

I have checked the wall in D.C. thorughly to make certain that all of you got back alive. Thank god that we were fortunate enough to achieve that. I'm wondering if any of you were diagnosed with PTSD as I am. I was in complete denial about Nam and how it affected me until I crashed in 1995. Since then I have been under the medical care of the VA (we all know the quality of that!)and have been in and out of the hospital since. I even went through an excellent PTSD program at the Colmery-O'Neil VAMC in Topeka, KS and I highly recommend it to anyone who is suffering from PTSD. I still have flashbacks and nightmares but they are more manageable now. I'm hoping that I find you guys or anyone that knew me when I was there. I had the nickname then as was known as "Brakes", given to me by Faz. I would also like to contact anyone who knew me! or who served on or around any of the above mentioned areas as I am trying to have a more accurate recollection of some of the incidents that we went through. The readiness build-up for Operation Lam Son 719, rocket attacks on Eagle, Evans and Phu Bai, etc... my memory is not precise because of medications and PTSD. Also would like to hear from anyone who has PTSD and is still fighting with the VA about it and the discrepencies in our military and medical records. Thanks!

Message is: I am looking for the men that were Counter Mortar Radar Operators on Fire Support Base Patton during 1969-70 in Vietnam outside of Chu Chi. These men served under the leadership of an ex-US Marine, a US Warren Officer and were responsible for the observation and location of enemy rocket and mortar fire in and around Saigon. It has been thirty years since those days and I would like to speak with some of those men. I remember one member used to fly crop dusters in the West, another was from Jersey. Another was a lawyer and one played the guitar and was a good technician. One was a black man and another was Puerto Rican who led me to a bunker during a rocket attack. I will never forget these men and all the men I met in Vietnam. I just can't remember their names. God Bless all Vietnam Veterans and their families. Never have so many men suffered and died for such a cause!
