Message is: I was only 15 years old when I met Richard, who then was 22 years old, making him about 52 years old now (1999). I was living in Springfield, Virginia. My mom, Lavonia Pearl Yarber, had a friend simply known as Max Walls who worked in the Washington, D.C. area for a company I believe was called Exhibit Aids. Max had a younger brother named Richard. We dated for a brief time before he was called to Vietnam. We wrote back and forth for a while until I stopped writing. He pleaded for me to write, but I didn't. I let him down. To this day, I feel terrible for not writing him. No excuse... I was just immature. When he needed me to write the most... while he was serving our country in a battle that few understood.. He had enlisted in the army when he was 18, during the Vietnam War. He never actually fought, and was instead transferred to Fort Sam Houston (?) in Texas where he worked with heroin addicted vets. He was born on November 25th, 1953 in Brooklyn, NY and he passed away on November 8, 1983. I just wanted to locate anyone who might remember him or who might have any information about the nature of his service: how long he served, when and why he was discharged, his rank, unit, service number, etc. If anyone has any information to this effect, please contact me.
