Message is: Looking for SSG (in 1968) KETCHEL, from Texas, can't recall first name at this time. He was assigned to III Corps, Advisory Team 87, in Xuan Loc and worked with the 2nd Bn 43rd ARVN Regiment, 18th ARVN Div. Served with him about 5 months, through the Tet Offensive, when I went to a Recon Company. He was wounded twice that I know of, Sept 67 at a road block on highway 2 in III Corp, just south of Dinh Quan, and again on the 5th of May 1968, also on Highway 2, this time in a large ambush just north of the Song La Nga River and just south of Dinh Quan (in Dinh Quan Province). Last wound was to the head. I saw SSG Ketchel about the 12th of May 68 the last time, in the 24th (I believe) Evac Hospital in Long Binh. His wound was serious, but not life threatening. He had lost use of an arm and leg, but a doctor told me that the prognosis was good that he would regain some use of the limbs. Evacuated the next day. Realize the no first name dosen't help. The details I ha! ve provided would only fit one guy. Simply trying a long shot to see if anyone may know of him. He was a great soldier. My name is Ed Carr and our squad leader was Sgt Gadoras. Othel was over six feet tall, Golden Gloves Boxing Champ in Germany before 1968. We walked POINT for a long time from March 1968, and most of that year. Our third member of my fire team was a short farmer named Taylor. Because of a disagreement, I was put on Point everynday I was in that unit, and Othel was 10 feet behind me and Taylor. They shared my punishment without a thought, and we walked Point seven months in 1968 after my original company was wiped out. Then, Othel showed up as a replacement to refill Delta Company.
