Div., my 1st RnR was to Hawaii to spend with my wife, the next RnR I went to Okinawa with Clark. I was/am from the Houston, Tx. area and was shipped from Ft. Leonardwood to Vietnam. I turned 19 almost as soon as I arrived in Vietnam. Some names in common, you might remember are: Lee Cummings, Rodney Holtman, Dennis Kelly, Dennis Morgan, LeRoy Peoples, John Rowland, Dallas Sawtelle, Gary Skelcher, George Strickland, Joe Ware, Daniel Cook, 1st Lt! . Thomas Curry....not that I can really remember these guys, but, except for the Lt., these guys became Spec. 4 on same day that I did. Sorry guys, but sure some of you can understand...almost all of us tried to forget...and maybe we forgot some of the wrong things......here are a few guys that went through basic with me at Ft. These 3 were the sole survivors of a 10 man patrol overrun by a Company size force of VC/NVA in Long An Provence on 10/04/68 Peace was shot in the foot and refused to let me check it out as he was convinced his toes were shot off. Hodges and Bivens,2 Afro-Americans,were located in a rice paddy a click or more away from the firefight site,I did not see their injuries. I was on another patrol when it happened,we saw the whole thing,it was over in less than a minute. It is a miracle these three survived at all.
