My daughter went to Washington D.C. this week with her school and at my request she searched the Wall. She has called me and said that she found a Robert Gordon Cozart Jr. and his death was listed as 03-20-70. Message is: Richard Hawk was the best man at my wedding on July 11, 1981 in Summit County Colorado. We worked construction together for Kyburz Construction from 1978 to 1980. He was originally from Sisseton, SD and moved to Colorado about the same time I did, I am from Sioux Falls, SD and moved back in September of 1981. We corresponded breifly after that and then lost contact of one another. I know he had some issues pending with agent orange, and that he moved to central Minnesota in the mid to late 1980's. He had talked of moving to the Kentucky area and I have not heard from him since. He didn't talk much about the war so I don't know too much. He was with a tank outfit, he served two tours, he complained of problems associated with agent orange, and when I knew him was somewhat of a loner. He loved to fish and spent much of his spare time doing that, reading and watching TV. He seemed to be active with a group of vets regarding the agent orange controversy, although I don't ! know what organazation or group of vets he was working with. Message is: These two guys were from Arkansas. G W Adkisson was from Melborne. He couldn't even afford a first name, so I doubt that he owns a computer. He's probably still in the area of Melborne, and has probably earned a reputation for borrowing trucks and not putting any gas in them. He spent about 15 months in country. He would have ETSed around March 1971. He smoked Winstons and has an Arkansas accent, which ought to make him stand out like a sore thumb on the streets of Melborne. Jimmy King was from Ft Smith, Arkansas. He spent some quality time with the 2/17 in the last half of 70, then got some cherry assignment with another battalion of the 1st Field Forces when we deactivated in April 71. Jimmy had no bad habits. Both these guys were 13B cannoneers.

Message is: My first search & destroy mission. Oberving patrol prior to taking over my platoon following day. 15 minutes out we ran into approx, 17 vc, in a village. Started with 9 of us and lost 1 killed, medic, and at least two wounded. One of the wounded I attended to and killed the VC who shot this young man. Shot entered lower abdomen and severed spinal cord. Indiviual was paralized from chest down. Past out before gunships could medivac. We spoke until he lost consciousness, asking me to hold his hand, because he felt he was dying and was understandably scared. We share a special bond absent any communication, we always will. I still see his face and hear his words. Would be nice to know if you made it and if so how you are doing.
