I dont remember where you were from- I thought Pennsylvania but I really dont know. There is a Robert Nicholson on the wall but it cant be you as he was KIA before you were in country. The truth is I dont know if you made it or not. I know if you did you suffered much as you were shot at least 6 or 7 times. You may not want to open those old wounds. I know you cant remember much of that day as you were wounded early in the battle and it took over 2 1/2 hours to get a chopper in to get any wounded out. I only want to know if you made it home and got to see that new baby of yours. I want to know that I accomplished at least one decent thing while I was there. Message is: During the late winter/spring of 1968, I commanded the 3rd Platoon Charlie Company 3rd Battalion 1st Infantry 11th Light Infantry Brigade. We operated out of LZ liz in Quang Ngai Province. Our battalion commander was LTC. James A. Franklin and the company commander was Capt. Harry Joe Rhinehart. I was badly WIA on 6/12/68 and evacuated out of country. I spent 18 months at Walter Reed getting pieced back together and was retired as a result of my wounds. 8 of my men were also wounded in the same action. My RTO lost both of his legs above the knees. Message is: I am looking for these officers. These officers helped activate this company in Fort Hood, Texas. We trained the men in the company, went through field exercises, qualified our unit for deployment to the Republic of Vietnam in 1967. When we arrived in Chu Lai we received our mission to support an existing task force known as Task Force Oregon. Later our mission was modified to form the 23rd Infantry Division also known as "AMERICAL DIVISION" usind all resources from the task force. We were attacked in February 1968 with Russian-made 122mm rockets. One rocket hit our hootch where five of us were sleeping. All of us were the 258th PSC officers. Our commander, Ned Shivar, was med evacuated to Japan due to his severe wounds. The rest of us remained with the company. I would like to locate these officers. They can help me account for this attack and I can present their accounts to the VA who do not have record of me being injured in that incident. Your help will be grea! tly appreciated. Thank you.

Message is: I have been back twice (Jul-Oct 1999 and Mar-Apr 2000), and am planning another trip for the end of Aug. The VC have erased nearly all traces of our presence. I found nothing remaining in Dalat (C Btry), or in Bao Loc either. The Airbase at Phan Rang is still in use, and it looks (thru bino's from the Cham Temple) as though some of our buildings are still standing. This trip I may try to get in there. Message is: I'm posting for my father, Jim Swafford, who was in the 410th Transportation Company, 10th Battalion, 124th Brigade. They were shipped out of Fort Meade, MD to Cam Rahn Bay, Vietnam. He was in country from mid-summer to mid-summer 66-67. His company mainly unloaded supply ships, I believe. To jog anyones memory he was 25 when he was drafted so he was older than everyone around him. He's white, brown hair and eyes, he's a professional musician and played guitar and sang when off duty.
