We held our first reunion in 1999 in Las Vegas. It was at the reunion that we decided to form a chapter in the 4th IDA. Our charter was granted, effective Jan 1, 2000 and the Ivy Dragoons Chapter was created. Our last reunion was held in DC July 2001 with the National Reunion to commemorate the 4th Inf Div Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery. Our next battalion reunion will be held July 2003 in Las Vegas. However, there are company reunions and minireunions held throughout the year. We put out a quarterly newsletter, Ivy Dragoons Dispatch, to keep our Brothers informed as to what is going on. Our current roster strength is over 480 who served with 3/8th in RVN from 1966-1970. It, also, includes some members who were with the 6/29 FA and humped the boonies with the grunts as our FO's. Message is: my brother, ronald edward campbell was killed in action during the cambodian invasion, that pres. nixon had not previously announced to the u.s. a comrade, 31 years later (last march or april of holy week, 200l, appeared in my parents small appalachian town in e. KY and asked the local funeral director how to find my dad. he was sucessful, for my dad , now 80, was loafing with his buddieds at my uncle's chevron station. my dad took the mystery gentleman to my brother's gravesite. the soldier laid a wreath on my brother's grave, and left without my dad asking his name, address, or phone number. i know my brother had picture of a "pettit" african american soldier buddy in the bush. My dad did, however, notice the van license was from north carolina. my other only living brother, who is between the deceased and i in age, would love to correspond with this "mysterious" soldier.
