Message is: Roy Curry was my uncle, who I never met. My Father, Roy's brother is ill and not quite clear with his memory. He claims that Roy died in world war two, in battle as a recon solder while entering a town in Germany called "Kemp". He was also called by the name "Lee Curry". My father said his unit was the 16th Mechanized Calvery, 9th Army, but who knows. He was also allegedly featured in some year book of the time when Patton met up with the Russians and took the famous photo of Patton posing and shaking hands with them. He received two purple hearts and a bronze star. His army buddy was a guy named Sparky Weir. He was in the same unit and came home with my uncles remains. Weir died a few years later from his leg being shot off. I know it's not much to go on, but anything you can dig up, I'd like to know. (With all his relatives growing old and passing away I don't want him to be forgotten).

I know he was an MP stateside, but I don't know what his MOS was in Nam. I'm sure it was infantry. I was very young when he went away, but my memory of him when he visited was pleasantly amazing. Since his death, I can't get much out of my family on how he died.(Most who knew anything are now gone also) Just that he was first wounded, then sent to Japan where he was treated. He then chose to go back to his unit instead of getting out. He then went back and died saving a fellow soldier. I would love to hear from anyone who served with him.

Message is: I would just like to find out any information about my step-brother, John Richard Halsey, from Walton, KY. He served in Vietnam in either 1968 or 1969 to 1970. He was wounded and had his leg amputated below the knee. He spent a year or so at Ft. Gordon, GA, in the hospital recuperating. He came home to us, but never talked about the war. He died in August of 1991. I had joined the military (Army) in 1981 and he had told me not to, but was proud when I went into the medical field, because the medics in Vietnam saved his life. I really would like to find information about his service because I was only 6 when he was injured and I can remember when the Army came to our house to let us know and seeing the yellowish colored paper telling us he was wounded and watching his mother and my mother sobbing. Everyone always talked about how proud they were of his service but always sheltered me from the details of any of it. I am 39 years old now and have served in the military! and watched a husband go to Desert Storm and never talk about it. My children are interested in the Vietnam War, as am I, and would just like to learn about it for ourselves. Not what the history books want to write, but the actual feelings and first hand stories about it. As I've stated, everyone "shielded" me when I was little, so I never really learned from Johnny anything about it. He would not talk in front of me. If anyone could provide any information about his time there who possibly served with him, it would be greatly appreciated. He was always my hero. And he is never going to be forgotten. He was a tremendous man who might have had his own personal demons from the war, but always had time to be there for me. Thank you.

Message is: Try to find for several years this sergeant. I met him at the 4 days 30 miles Hike at Nijmegen - Holland where he enjoyed this hike with his batallion from Frankenthal Hospital - Germany. Because of the fact that he was the only soldier who managed to walk the last - 4th - day together with my platoon of Dutch Air Force soldiers there was no medal available for him, so I gave him mine. During a long time we stayed in contact by writing, he also visited a few times my place in Holland together with his wife Josie and son Byron. He died of Myledysplatic Syndrome which metasized into Acute Myelogenous Leukemia. These cancers are almost always caused by exposure to herbicides, pesticides or benzene (jet fuel). I came in-country in June of 70 and you both hooked up with the unit after me I think it was in July possibly August of 70. I carried the M79 and would walk slack for both of you and few others when you and they walked point. I have made contact with Harvey Van Hoven and Ron Heimerel.
