I pray there are members of his unit who remember him and will contact me. Douglas Balderston thought they might have been in the same unit, but different squads. He remembers one guy being killed in a mine sweep for a convoy, although he was not there at the time. Doug also remembers 3 sargeants, Givens, Corbutt and Grogen being there at the ambush. According to the military, he died in Phuoc Long Province on 7/18/70 as a result of small arms fire. For all the service members who gave so much, and continue to give so much, I will pray for you. APPARENTLY THE V. C. USED THE RUNWAY CONTROL TOWER AND THE WATER TOWER AS RANGE MARKERS .AS THE MOTARS WALKED IN ,CLOSER AND CLOSER,DEBRIS RATTLED THE TIN ROOF OF OUR HOOTCH .NEXT DAY I TOOK PHOTOS OF THE DAMAGE DONE THE NEXT DAY. MAN, THE CHINOOK HELOS HAD LOTS OF SMALL HOLES THAT HAD TO BE REPAIRED .WE HAD TO SANDBAG EVERY SHIP AFTER THAT ATTACK !!!JOE CHMURA .

Message is: Howard, an African American, about 6' 2" was in Nigeria after Vietnam War to study at the University of ife, Nigeria. I was a friend and research associate for his research on Yoruba art history. He returned to the U.S. in the late 70s, I believe.
