The Images of Paul Owen

"These images are not your photojournalist-type pictures. I was not a photographer in the war. Many of the photos were taken in the jungle, while I was on point for the 'Hawks' recon, as well as Christmas art work that was done in country. They seem 'more real' to me.

"Most of the images have both a literal and a symbolic interpretation. It was not intended at the time of photographing, but the situation seems to have dictated the final meaning."

The sizes stated for each image relate to the original prints which have been exhibited and help to give the viewer a sense of the originals. Some of Paul's work is in the National Vietnam Veterans Arts Museum. The photos were taken in Vietnam in 1967.
