Eleazar's Album

Eleazar Paredes served in Vietnam from 25 September, 1967 to 25 September, 1968. His Occupational Specialty (MOS) was welder. He was assigned to Company C or the 69th Engineer Battalion, 20th Engineer Brigade, 34th Group, Dong Tam.

His unit was part of a large group of engineers whose objective was to build a home base for the 9th Infantry Division. Dong Tam was a small village along the Mekong River. During his tour, the NVA and Viet Cong activity in the area was rapidly increasing. The Tet Offensive of 1968 was just around the corner.

One of the many jobs of a welder was to "demilitarize" any enemy weapons which were going to be kept as trophies or for training aids. These pictures show some of the weapons Eleazar made inoperable.
