I joined the Army in December 1969, after 10 week basic training I was posted to Infantry Training, 8 weeks later we did 4 four weeks at the Jungle training centre in Queensland , I was then put on notice for service in Vietnam so two weeks layer I found my self in country at the Australian Base of Nui Dat in Phouc Tuy province about 80 klm ( 50 Miles )South East of Saigon , now known as Baria –Phouc Tuy province, from there I had a month with the Australian Embassy Guard in Saigon , stayed with the Americans at a Hotel called the Carravlle I think, after a honey moon of four weeks some one decided I would be better of sleeping under the stars and eating out of ration packs.

So for the next five months I served as a rifleman with the Delta company7th Battalion Royal Australian regiment, after the Bn finished its tour of duty I was reposted to the 4 Pl Bravo Company 2nd Battalion Royal Australian. Our platoon would occasionally stay at FSB manned by you guys , although most of the time we were out bush, we had a few nights at the FSB Horse shoe and had a unit of US heavy artillery as company, never got a nights sleeps due to being thrown out of bunks by the shock wave they gave off.
