The ship was involved with the evacuation of Vietnamese from the northern provinces to Saigon, and then with the evacuation of Americans from Saigon at the end of the war. He was stationed in San Diego, CA from 1970-1974. From 1970-1972 was aboard the USS Florikan (ASR - 9). 1972-1974 was aboard USS Sperry (AS12). Was Petty Officer 2nd Class (E5).
