In Nov. or Dec. of 1965 while we were patrolling the coast of Vietnam onboard the USS Kitty Hawk one of our RA-5c'c made a 1 engine landing at Danang AB in South Viet Nam due to losing a CSD/GEN. I and another man were sent to Danang to change the CSD/GEN. We flew off the ship on the COD(C1-A) to Danang. The repair turned into an engine change and 2 more guys came from the ship to help us. I beleive they were ADJ-2 Doggett and Chief Slayton. I am looking for someone to verify that I was sent in for this job and returned to the ship from Danang several weeks later after we received the new engine and the A/C returned to the ship. Message is: Looking for Navy journalists Terry Mauer and Harry Peplinski. The three of us were JO types in the Admiral's office at the Navy headquarters compound in Saigon. I'll never forget how good these guys were to me when I came aboard. Mauer had been in a band before joining the Navy. The dog in the office was "Titi-girl." Hal Silverstein and Jean-Pierre Nuss were two other JO's in the office. Peplinski might have been from NJ, PA, OH or thereabouts. Mauer maybe from TN, KY or further south. I might get famous one of these days, and I want these guys to do the interviewing. No joke. Before I left, Peplinski gave me the US dollar he'd kept all year and some Vietnamese art on velvet. Google Search does not do much for finding these two guys. If the names ring a bell, let me know. Thanks.

Message is: My name is Randy Clark. I am looking for anyone that was assigned to 41st Port Construction out of Long Binh during Nov 68 through Oct 70. I was from Ohio and was known as 'Red CÆ because there were two of us with red hair and he was called æRed whatever his initial wasÆ. I lived on the 1st platoon pile-driving barge and was a lead climber. I am trying to find anyone who knew me or served on that boat. IÆm especially interested in knowing if anyone can remember the hill across the highway from our company area at Long Binh that the VC had tunneled into and from which they attacked the perimeter ôone nightö. After a night of fierce fighting that included big guns, Cobras, napalm, bombers and fire from the perimeter, by morning the hill was gone. We were told later that there were 200-300 VC in that hill. Does anyone remember the stench for months after that attack? If so, do you remember when this occurred or have any pictures of it? Also, does anyone remember the crane tipping over with two men on the leads? One came up and one didnÆt. Again, any dates or pictures? Does anyone remember the crane operator unloading too many I-beams from the left side of the supply barge and it flipped over. If so, can you tell me what you remember (where, when, pictures) and how did we recover it. If you were on that boat, do you remember the evening we were test firing our 50-cal and a tracer went astray and killed a little girl in her hooch? Do you remember what happened after that and what we did and had to do? If so, could you please tell me what you saw, what you heard, what you felt. Does anyone remember pulling guard duty at night on the boat, shooting anything floating up or down the river (boxes, logs, bodies, whatever) to protect our boat from floating mines or booby-traps. Remember dropping concussion grenades every so often to ward off any submerged swimmers that just might be planning to do us harm (the barge that is). If anyone has any information about any of the above incidents or has been in contact with any of the other guys please contact me.
