Trying to locate: "Fitzpatrick" 1968 Red Beach, Vietnam
Branch of Service: Navy
Unit was: Red beach 1
Where served: Vietnam
When served: 1968

Message is: My father was blown up in 1968 in Red Beach Vietnam. A man by the name of Fitzpatrick was there to take the boy away from my father whom my father had disabled several explozive devices when they all engaged and my father lost an eye and both hands. They thought he was dead when they found him but in fact he has survived. Now as we are looking into the records my father has been denied a purple heart because they claim my father had purposely inflicted the wounds on himself without any child or reason behind his actions. I am trying to find this man... I am hoping it might stand out to someone.... My fathers name is Ted Vogt... he was a Seaman at the time of injury because of his younger actions.. but this would mean alot to him to just get the records straight. Apparently there was a newspaper article written also but those have been lost in a fire.... Anything would help.. any lead at all. God bless

Trying to locate: A man he saved while on duty as a corspman.
Branch of Service: Navy
Unit was: Medevac units, and on the Repose.
Where served: Various areas of Vietnam.
When served: approx. 1965 to 1969.

Message is: My friend is 61 years old. He retired in 2001, after as a Chief, after over 30 years in the Navy. He was in Vietnam from (approx) 1965 and 1969, as a corpsman, in various areas; in combat zones, with Medevacs units, and on the Hospital ship ÔÇÿReposeÔÇÖ at times. While serving in Vietnam, there was this one incident where an helicopter was down, and he disobeyed an order not to go rescue the guys in there. He went because he saw there was someone alive. One man from the crew was dead (pilot or gunner), and the other one was alive, but his leg was stuck. My friend proceeded to amputate the manÔÇÖs leg to free him, carried him on his back, and as they were getting away from the helicopter, it blew up, and both men, my friend and the man on his back, were violentely thrown against a mound of earth. My friend was injured (his back wrecked, and a dislocated shoulder). Because of his misconduct and courage, if I can put it that way, my friend faced both ÔÇô face measure for having! disobeyed orders, and being awared a medal for saving this manÔÇÖs live. He ended up getting ÔǪ neither, avoiding measures, and, like he said, he didnÔÇÖt care for the medal anyway. The man was saved, that was the important thing to him. My friend is not well (dealing with all the ghosts of Vietnam, part of severe PTSD, and constant pain from a degenerative spine). I keep thinking that it might do him good if he was reacquainted with something good that he did in Vietnam, something he could be proud of, feel good about, and I thought of this man that he saved. Of course, as a corpsman, he saved many other lives, but this one seems to hold a special status in his mind, in his memories. I am looking for this man. If he is still alive. If you think you are this man whoÔÇÖs live he saved, or if you know someone whoÔÇÖs story is very similar with this one, please contact me. IÔÇÖm sorry for not having any more specifics (where, when). He never told me the name of the man, and IÔÇÖm not sure he ever knew his name. And all things Vietnam are not topics that I bring up. I listen when he feels like talking, but I donÔÇÖt ask questions. Any help trying to locate this man is welcomed. Thank you very much.
