I had an open assignment project where I chose to do a video interview of a good friend of mine who served in Vietnam. I got an "A" on my interview. Although my friend was a rear eschelon soldier, he still had his own unique story to tell. After his interview I got to thinking that I have never ever seen any documentary, testimony, or film that depicted the actual soldier experience. Tommorrow is the twenty-fifth anniversary of the fall of Saigon. Message is: I do not know if I am writing to the right organization or not but here goes. I have tried everything else. I was a student in elementary school when I wrote to a soldier by the name of Russell Beasley. I was in seventh or eighth grade. It is hard to remember what year because I had the same teacher both years. I did recieve a letter back from the person that got my letter. Unfortunately I did not keep the letter but I do remember some of the details from it. The person that wrote to me was from the midwest or east coast and he was a medic or actually one of the people that went on the helicopters and carried injured soldiers onto the choppers. I do not remember which branch of the military but for some reason I think he may have been in the army. My letter was sent by way of my teacher to a Chaplain that he knew over there. The Chaplain then distributed the letters to soldiers that didn't recieve any mail or wanted to hear from someone else. These are all of the details that I remember. Unfortunately I can not remember where he was sent on duty,what branch,what unit,etc. If anyone can help me or give me leads on where else to search. Please write to me or e-mail me. He may have been the head or leader of a Tank division... Of about 5 tanks. We believe his title was _____ Sargent (something like staff? but unsure). He has a scar over one of his eyebrows that may have been from that inccodent. He held a third level black belt in a martial art. He stood about 6'1" and had dark brown hair. We think his birth date is around the 17th or 19th of March, 1947. It is believed that he originated from Oregon (Salem maybe?). That he entered the war on an ultimadum by a judge to either be sent to a juvinile hall, or fight for his country. He has a brother names Lawrence who had cerebral palasy. And a sister named Terissa. Both of whom are believed to be younger than Gerald. We believe his mothers name is to be Jean. Jean remarried a man believed to be named Jack Thompson. Gerald was last seen wearinng corective glasses.

My birth mother's name was Margaret "Peggy" Grapko. She was from Gull Lake, Saskatchewan Canada and met Bob when she moved down to the States. back the the USA. You used to accuse me of having a hollow leg because I could drink with you

pre- Vietnam war. After the war he came back to his home Island of PHU QUOC (directly sth of
