I have a copy of the base combat record and letters from 3 officers who where stationed there during that time that may be helpful in helping those who are trying to gather important information crucial to their VA disability claim. I am willing to help those needing collaboration of their statments submitted to VA, in addition to the information mentioned above. I cannot stress how important documentation is when dealing with the VA. My own claim for disability is a case in point. I first applied for disability for a hip/leg, service connected injury, in September, 96. October, 96 I was notified I was rated at 10%. I had also been diagnoised as having PTSD. That claim was submitted in October, 96. November, 96 I was rated at 50% for PTSD for a combined total of 70%. I requested 100% unemployability in December, 96. In February, 97 I was notified I was granted 100% unemployability. I gave this as a way of showing how important documentation is. When dealing with the VA, the most important thing needed to prove your claim is, DOCUMENTATION, DOCUMENTATION, DOCUMENTATION!!

Message is: Still looking for James &/or Al. Would be happy to hear from other members of SP Squadron or from any personnel who were stationed at Binh Thuy when the American troops were pulled out. I always wondered what happened to the base and whether the VC ever finally made it through the fencelines to get at the Aircraft..etc. When I first arrived in Sept 68, the base was getting popped fairly regularly by 75mm recoiless rounds, it settled down after a while and then picked up around Tet of '69. By the time I left in Sept 69, Charlie had only tried coming through the fencelines one time. Unfortunately, I was on the K7a Tower and was a bit shook up by the machine gun fire being exchanged. I had only about 45 days left in counntry at the time and for at least a few minutes didn't think I had a chance of seeing it happen. It really wasn't a big deal as it turned out, but I didn't know that at the time. Anyway, if you were at Binh Thuy, send me a line, I'd enjoy hearing from you.
