Message is: Operation SAFESIDE was initiated November 1968. The Training Wing was stationed at Fort Cambell, Kentucky. The 823rd Squadron completed three months of training and was shipped to Phan Rahn VN, in February 1969. The C-141 the transported us to PR took 48 hours. We flew from KY to Alaska, to Japan, then to Okniwa, then to PR. The tower told us we could not land because they were under attack, and all air strips in-country were under attack. The Aircraft Commander decided to go to Clark Field, PI. From their we flew back to PR and was able to land.

We grew up together on Robins AFB, where our fathers few C-141 to Nam. I think that Chucky's dad might have been a Navigator, rank of LTC. I lost contact with Chucky when we moved away. Here's one bit of bad news, I'm not sure of the correct spelling of his last name. But if I can find his dad, I might find Chucky. Message is: I am the son of USAF Major William A. Milano, most called him Bill. During Vietnam he may have still been a Captain, but I may be wrong. He was a Forward Air Controller, served in several areas of Vietnam from late 1967 to late 1968. He continued with the Air Force, served over 30 years, and retired in 1975. He passed away at age 64 in 1988, and is interned at Arlington Natinal Cemetery.
