Message is: Larry (Turk)Hoelzle was an Air Commando during Vietnam. Larry did some training with the Air Force in Colorado and at Lackland AFB. He was a photographer in the Air Commandos (or so he told us, the family, so we wouldn't know that he was in Vietnam). He never did exactly tell us that he served in Vietnam but he showed my husband (who was in the USCG) a patch that proved he was in Vietnam in combat for at least 6 months. When he came back from Vietnam he had to get experimental drugs to fight "skin cancer" through the VA hospital. Unfortunately, he passed away 5/13/04 at the young age of 58. I was wondering if I could find someone who served with him? Our family used to live in Lansdowne, PA. He loved ice hockey back then.

Message is: I witnessed a Veitnamese policeman shoot another Vietnamese(cowboy) outside the base entrance. I am trying to obtain VA benefits and need to prove this situation. I have in my possession a wooden carving of Mary? mother of Jesus that was carved by H Hershel of the 101st that he presented to the Methodist Chapel in the village of Chilton Foliot close to where he was stationed in Littlecote Park in Wiltshire prior to the D Day invasion. Incidentally I believe he may have been in the 502 as they were stationed at Littlecote. The plaque was given in thanksgiving to the warm welcome and the hospitality extended to the serviceman that worshipped in the chapel. The plaque's owner is a retired Methodist preacher and he would like to know a little of H Hershel. Any information would be gratefully recieved. Incidentally there is a 'Gathering of Eagles' on the village of Aldbourne on Sunday May 21st 2006 and the plaque will be given its first and more probably it,s last public viewing at this event. A special salute to those SP guys at Ubonratchatani Jan '70. My load crew was a man short so we were working arm/dearm end of the runway with a crewchief. Middle of the night the sappers show up and the firefight begins. Everybody out there has guns but us, Security Police are shooting at sappers, sappers are shooting back, both sides got dogs, after awhile APC or Jeep pulls up about where Spectre parked their birds and the M-60s let loose, tracers arcing across the runway, sappers get blowed up, dogs race by. We have a great view from our bunker behind the arm/dearm shack. shooting calms down and we crawl into the shack and phone the weapons load crew office, sunsabitches are all gone, all the guys on the flightline were evacuated someplace. We call the security police office, yea, they know were are out there, just lay low, and they'll send a truck out to get us after they clear the area. Spys said 16 sappers coming to visit, only 6 bodys found so far. Anyways, Thanks to! you K-9 handlers and all the security guys onduty that night at Ubon, terrific job. Regards, Joe.
