I was a senior in high school when he died and I had just signed up on a 120 day delayed enlistment in the Marines three days prior to his death. Message is: I was a close friend of Dave MCGlochlin when we were stationed in Japan. He preceded me in going to Vietnam, and he visited me in late 68 after I arrived in country. At that time he was with an Engineering Battalion, but he transferred to a CAP unit sometime after that. He was killed in the early morning hours of Jan 10, 68. He received a Bronze Star, and his unit received a meritorious naval unit citation for the action. I spoke to Sgt Jake Gibbs of First CAG about the action, but details are fuzzy. I am looking for anyone who served with Dave, who was there and survived, or who knows the details. The CAP was in the Hamlet of Nui Tac Huong (according to the Bronze Star, but I think this transliteration is bunk). No such hamlet is listed in the current Gazatteer of Vietnam. There is a Nui Thanh on Route 1, just north of Chu Lai in Quang Tin province, that may be the same place. If anyone knows anything about any of this, please contact me.
