Message is: I am searching for ANY information regarding L/Cpl Alfred Oliver Chance, Jr. He went by "Oliver" or "Al". He is my uncle, but he died in a private plane crash before I was old enough to know him. He was a short man from Fayetteville, NC. He had blond hair, but usually shaved his head. According to his letters he walked point as much as possible. One operation he took part in was to take Dong Ha mountain. He was stationed at Camp Rockpile I believe. He was shot 3 times in July and was later put in a hospital in CONUS. That was the end of his tour.

Message is: I am writing today on behalf of my son. He would like to get in touch with his biological father, James W. Long. He inlisted in the Marines just before he graduated from H.S. Upon graduation he went into the military and off to Vietnam I was 18 (1981)when I met Jim, he was 31 and a long hall truck driver. He drove from Houston to California. We met in a club called 'Dirty Harry's' in Pasadena TX. We began to date and then drive the truck together. I became pregnant and soon after we stopped seeing each other upon his actions. He claimed that he had malaria in the war and could not father children. This was in 1982. I have not seen nor heard from him since. My son is now 15 and would like to know his father. After the pain of being alone during pregnancy and with a small child ended I no longer had any regrets about my relatinship with Jim. My son is very proud of his fathers efforts in the war and is interested in learning more about this man who "..must look like me.". My son will go to college soon and will need financial aide. Since he is the son of a marine i know funds are available with the proper info. If nothing else we will need this info. Jim was born in S.D. CA. His father was in the Navy. They lived in China or Japan for a little while when he was young. His sister's name is Linda. He has a brother. They all live in Houston as far as I know. Message is: For Christmas, 1969 myself(a 13 year old Cuban immigrant) and my classmates at St. Peter and Paul School in Miami, Florida wrote and sent gifts to soldiers serving in Vietnam. I received a letter addressed to me personally dated 12/20/69 from S/Sergeant Edmund Lyons, USMC thanking me for my good wishes and gifts. He writes he is from East Orange, NJ, married with no children. He writes of how proud he is to be an American and of the meaning of freedom. I have treasured this letter all these years. I did not find his name on The Wall when I visited Washington DC. and have always wondered what became of him. I just want to let him know how much his letter touched me. Even though I was not born in the US, having escaped a different Communism hell, I was most grateful for his sacrifice. I hope he returned safely and he should know that after all these years he is remembered with gratitude.

Message is: I am interested in initiating contact with my father, Lawrence Manchester. Unfortunately I am very low on information; I know that he served in Vietnam, probably between 1968 and 1973, but I have no idea what branch of the military he served in.
