Message is: I don't recall much of the experience at the air base but recall taking care of helicopter parts and other varied duties at the base. the hooch we lived in was adjacent to the road facing west about in the middle of the base . I recall being hit numerous times in the tet period. One of the guys in the hooch was crazy when rats came around and he attacked them with a bat. Gunther was a gunner for a time (sgt).most of us were support personnel. In all the years since I have not seen or heard anything about the base and its activities in the war. Only once did I ever hear mention of the air group. We were on the coast just north of Marble Mountain of which we usually watched the army (who had 105's up there) getting hit and we watched gunships fight frequently south of us. I think we were four miles from DaNang. It would be interesting to hear from anyone, see some pictures or find out some significant history about the activity of the Mag. Thanks.

Don (Donald, Donnie or DB) Carraway served two tours of duty in Vietnam - Jan. 1967- Feb. 68, and Nov. 68- Dec. 69. He was a Mortman. His final rank was Sgt. During his last tour he served with the Kilo 3/3 3rd Division, 2nd Platoon and the H&S 81st 3/3 3rd Division. His final duty assignment was with H&SCo, 3rdBn, 4thMar, 3rdMarine Division. He was from Port Arthur, Texas. He was involved in a lot of combat. He never talked about his experiences. I'm trying to find out about his days in the Marine Corp and his time in Vietnam.
