Message is: This is the first time I've tried to look things up on the web. I served in the Marines 68-70. I went to Vietnam when I was 19. I was a grunt with Golf Co. 2/3. Became squad radioman, team leader, squad leader. I was on Operation Maine Crag, Dewey Canyon, others I don't remember. Got malaria in Sep. 69. Medevaced to 3rd Med. Bn., I think it was at LZ Stud, then to the U.S.S. Sanctuary. Went back to I Corps upon recovery. Nixon started the troop withdrawals while I was sick. Everyone I was with was gone when I was choppered to Dong Ha from the ship. 2/3 was headed south. All the short timers were reorganized to the 9th Marines and sent to Okinawa. Nobody knew what to do with me so I was pencil whipped into Hotel Co. 2/4 and sent back to Mutter's Ridge. I believe I was with possibly the last Marine company up north. Camp Carrol was gone, Cam Lo was gone. Marines were turning over AO to the Army. I think elements of the Army's 5th Mech. were moving north ! to take over. I was at the Rockpile when I first got in country(I think we called it FSB Elliot. The Army had 155s, 175s, 8" self-propelled, and Dusters. We were the perimeter security) and ended up at the Rockpile. We were blowing all the gun emplacements and bunkers. The place was a ghost town when we left. Dong Ha Mountain was gone too. Wow! I've got Lymphoma now. I am serviced connected for Agent Orange, no monetary because I'm in remission. I had better go now.
