I TOOK HEAD COUNT AND FOUND BUD MISSING. I TOOK 4 OF MY MEN AND WENT BACK DOWN THE TRAIL TO LOOK FOR BUD. I FOUND BUD LAYING IN A SHALLOW DEPRESSION . A PIECE OF SHRAPNEL HAD ENTERED HIS LOWER BACK AND CAME OUT HIS FRONT MID-SECTION PULLING HIS INTESTINES WITH IT. THE CORPSMAN PUT A LARGE BANDAGE ON THE INTESTINES AND WE SOAKED IT WITH WATER TO KEEP THEM FROM DRYING OUT.HE ALSO PUT A PLASTIC TUBE IN HIS MOUTH TO TRY TO KEEP HIM BREATHING. AT THAT TIME ONE OF OUR TANKS SHOWED UP. WE PUT BUD ON A STRETCHER ON THE BACK OF TURRIT AND THATS THE LAST I EVER SAW OF MY FRIEND AND TEAM LEADER. I NEVER DID FIND OUT IF HE SURVIVED. I HAD MY BROTHER ED SEARCH THE VIET-NAM MEMORIAL FOR HIS NAME, COULD NOT FIND IT. I PERSONNALLY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FORCE MYSELF TO GO AND LOOK FOR MYSELF. I DON'T REMEMBER WH! Message is: We have been in the process of trying to find a former US Marine and very dear friend who served in Vietnam in 1965. The above information shows the times of contact with him. We last had contact with him in 1972 and he was stationed at or leaving the Charleston NAS, Charleston SC. His middle initial as we recall was B (Bernard).He was from the New York Manhattan area and we met his family there when they lived on FDR Drive in the early 60's. The family then moved to one of the Borroughs when the Mother passed away and the Father remarried. He had one son, Alvin, who was born in Fredericksburg VA but he was not married at that time. We visited the Burrough once but cannot recall which it was. He had 2 Sisters, Laurie and Sherry and 1 Brother, Michael, who they called Mickey. We retired in 1989 from the Marine Corps and lost all contact. To our knowledge he did not retire but got out of the Marine Corps. The Upcoming Quantico Reunion of our old Group is scheduled ! in March of 2001. We have checked with the Vietnam Veterans Organization but to no avail. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated even if you only refer us another web site. We regret we do not have a SSN. This has been our major problem in not locating him over the years. Message is: I am looking for anyone who served with my father in Vietnam. He was there for two seperate tours 66-67, 67-68 with a brief stint in between in San Diego, CA. I'm not sure of actual units but I think he was in the 1st Marines and 3rd Marines at some point. He is from Texas and was a SSgt in a radio platoon. I know he was in Danang during Tet and also spent some time at Khe Sanh during the siege. I can remember him saying he saw that famous footage from Khe Sanh of a C-130 exploding on the runway actually happen. He was also in the Dominican Republic during the Santo Domingo crisis. He is still alive and healthy living in Kansas City.
