Message is: My father Charles Anthony (Tony) Fitzgerald served in the marine corps for at lease 2 tours in Vietnam. I know he was there in July of 1971 because he told me he was in vietnam when I was born. My father stayed in the marines and retired as CWO4 in 1987. He never talked about his experiences. I know from family that the man who returned from vietnam was no longer the fun, carefree, person he had been. My father had a severe drinking problem, and was both mentally and physically abusive to his family after the war. In an attempt to understand him I am looking to speak with other service men that may have served with him. My father past away in 1991 from cancer. 2 days before his death, while heavily medicated he related a single incident that happened while he was in Vietnam. It was the only time he shared anything from those years. My mother was never told anything either. We are struggling to understand and I am finally at a point in my life where I feel I ! can listen and come to terms with my dads memory. If you can help I would be greatly appreciative. We are in the Appeal process, but we need some corroboration that my father was in Da Nang. His paperwork was lost and we know very little since he didn't talk much about his experience. Following are some of his duty assignments: VMGR-152 1st MAW FMFPac, VMGR-152 MAG 15 9th MAB 167, and Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 152. He was in and out of Da Nang from the summer of 1964 through the fall of 1965 and also from the fall of 1969 through the fall of 1970. What we do know is that he refueled planes, brought supplies and transported the men who died. We Need Your Help!!!

Message is: I was wound in Combat during Operation Oaklahoma Hills in May 1969. I was not wounded bad enough to be medically evacuated. The Corpsman just pulled the scapnle out of my Leg, cleaned cleand up the wound, slapped on a bandage, and off I went. I never thought about a Purple Heart at the time,to many of my buddies were getting them for far worse wounds, and mine would be triveal. Now I wish that I'd had the wound documented so that I could mine now. I served 22 Years in the Militry, I am 30% Disabled,according to the VA, and they keep asking me how was I injured, Where was I, what was I doing,etc. If I could get a Letter from Capt. Huffman the Co. Commanding Officer, or Two Men from company saying yes I was wounded, the VA would have the Documentation they need.
