Message is: After 36 years I found out that I was wounded in a friendly fire incident on June 19, 1970 in Elephant Valley, Vietnam. I was seriously wounded at that time and spent a year in the hospital so I never talked with anyone from my unit until recently. I was then told about it. Came as quite a shock after all these years. Two others were killed at that time. One was Herbert Lawrence Johnson from Waco, Tx. Neither my family or I was told what happened, just that it was a firefight. I didnt even know I won the Bronze star for that action. I am not angry about it, I would just like some closure on it.

Message is: I remember a Martinez, a Sgt. Guenther (gunner for awhile and then clerical), a Marine named Waite and another Whittier or Whittaker...We lived in a hooch along the main road just north of the hangers. We had our share of rocket and mortar attacks...I slept in the top bunk right by the front door...ran out the front door during one attack and right into the blast and everybody else turned around and ran out the other way. I remember a guy that use to eat sand crabs on the beach but don't know if he lived with us. Most of us arrived about the same time...about when Heshey(?) was a short timer and used to kill rats with the bat. I recall an inspection some new 1st Lt. tried on us and everyone showed up out of uniform and some with rusty rifles. I'm hoping to contact somebody who I lived or worked with at the H&MS-16 supply and especially anyone that can give some statistics about how many rockets and mortars we took during TET of '68.
