Message is: My little brother was with the first marine division in and around An Hoa, Vietnam sometime during 1970. I don't remember exactly. He was in on Operation Taylor Common. He was on 105's and 155's. Anyone who knows anything about operation Taylor Common or was in the An Hoa area please write me. I volunteered to keep my brother out of VietNam because I was afraid he'd get killed. But he arrived in Nam before me and they sent my sorry butt to Thailand. Geez!! Marines used to come to Thailand for R&R. For many years my brother wondered about his buddies. But the pain of the memories and the damned nightmares kept him from looking for them. It was easier to just try to forget I guess. Well..I am asking you Marines to help me please find anyone and everyone who may have been in and around An Hoa and knew a Marine by the name of Garth Leach. He had a friend named "short round", that's the only name I have for that marine. I sure a lot of Marines had names like ! short round. I'm just a lowly flyboy. Message is: I am looking for anyone who may have served with me in Vietnam between Nov.69 & April 70. I was most commonly known as Morris or R.P. I was a squad radio man mos 2500 and an 0311 rifleman. I joined Delta Co. 1st Bn. 7th Mar Reg on or about Nov. 1969. My first day in the bush when I with a group of brand new reinforcements were led out to link up with our unit we entered our bivouac after dark. The sgt leading us in searched the perimeter with a small flashlight looking for trip flares and booby traps. A grenade exploded and he took schrapnel in his leg and I took a small piece in my right thigh. Another event I recall (I failed to mention that I suffer from PTSD) is that our squad was sent out on a night ambush. We set up the ambush and waited for three or four hours and then called it off and headed back to our perimeter. As we approached our perimeter we were fired upon by our our own men. The squad leader grabbed my handset and called in a sit rep and we arrived safely back inside our perimeter. I don't remember much, especi! ally names. I recall a marine named Keeton from Kentucky, a Marine named draper who was a pretty good artist, and Alabama Red, volunterily on his third tour. If you remember please write, call, or email.
