It pretty easy in these cases. I like talking politics and policy but the requirement is to describe my experience. The only thing is I'm recalling it after (dothemath? ummm...) about 47 or so years. My own recollections tend toward fun and adventure which is quite apart from what most VN vets report. I have a hard time recalling the blood and gore and even then, it's not a problem which tends to surprise people. Sometimes I'm the only one. Sometimes there are several vets. Sometimes a student or two is about to enlist. One was a girl, I found out, after I was asked what I thought of women in combat. I threw in what I thought about gays in combat.The hard part is trying to explain to people the idea of unit cohesion and how that is affected. The gap between an air conditioned class, the bush, and theory vs practical experience is often wide. This is true in the grunts: class vs the exercise. Imagine a bunch of college kids, some of who are business majors and just-needed-a-histiry-class-and-VN-is-all-that-was-open.
